Description

Belinda Bakers Micawber Restaurant of Red Lion is a building that is now part of public house No 23 and a shop. The core of the building likely dates back to the 16th century, but it was refronted in the early 19th century and altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of stuccoed brick with a plain tile roof and has two storeys and an attic, featuring three bays. The left-hand bay is part of No 23 Red Lion and has a rear extension built in the 19th century that connects to the rear of No 23. The central bay has an angled wing at the back.

The front of the building includes a pair of wide 12-pane sash windows and a six-panel door beneath a square fanlight with narrow edge panes, all framed by a 19th-century shop surround and blind box. On the first floor, there are two small 9-pane sash windows. The other bays feature a projecting shop front on the ground floor with canted bay windows on either side of a central glazed door. On the first floor, there are two sash windows with narrow edge panes. The building has a moulded string cornice and a parapet that is slightly lower over the left-hand bay. Additionally, there are three hip-roofed dormers and a stack at each end, with the left-hand stack positioned in front of the ridge.
