Description
Pearsons is a town hall that has been converted into offices. It was built around 1700 and underwent alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed of brick, with some sections hung with mathematical tiles and features stone dressings. The front is painted, with a slate roof at the front and the rest covered with old plain tiles.
The structure is two stories high with an attic and has a five-bay by two-bay front range. There is a three-bay off-centre wing at the rear, and a parallel range to the front range with additional service buildings behind. The front features a slightly projecting central bay.
A plinth runs from each end to either side of an early 19th-century Ionic porch, which is set on stone steps and has four columns at the front and two pilasters at the corners. This porch leads to a pair of half-glazed double doors with a timber pilaster in between. Above the doors is a Venetian window with a pediment. On either side of the central bay are 18th-century 12-pane sash windows, some of which have been altered with glazing bars removed. The building has a moulded cornice and a low parapet with coping, topped by a tall hipped roof that includes a central hipped dormer.
