Description
4 and 6 East Street is a late 19th-century house built above shops, notable for its unusual Victorian classical style. The building is faced with stucco over brickwork and has a slate roof. The symmetrical north front is three storeys high and has two windows. The facade features arcaded eaves with half columns that have a spiral pattern on the second floor, a moulded cill band on the second floor with brackets below the window openings, "Dutch" heads to the second-floor windows projecting above the eaves, segmental pediments on brackets to the first-floor windows, with panelled architraves to number 4. There is also a plain band to the first floor, and a central, plain arch over the doorway with a key. The windows are casements, paired with round heads. The building contains two shopfronts dating from the early 20th century.
