Description
The Bear Hotel is an old coaching inn with an attached house, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of brick and features a tile roof. The symmetrical front, facing south, has three storeys and five windows, with an eastward extension that is two storeys high and includes an attic with four windows. The roof is hipped and tiled, with brick dentil eaves and hipped dormers that contain casement windows. The building has blue header brick walling accented with red flush dressings, rubbed cambered arches, and quoins. There is a band at the first floor, cement bands at the first and second floors of the main block, and a cement plinth. The windows are Victorian sashes set in exposed frames. A carriage opening is located at the second and third bays, and there is a doorway at the third bay of the extension, which is associated with a large former shop window.
