Description
The Church of St Faith is a parish church located in Havant. It has origins dating back to the 12th century, with further developments in the 13th, 15th, and significant alterations in 1832 and 1874. The church features a cruciform layout with a chancel from the 13th century, a vestry from the 14th century, and transepts with western aisles from the 15th century, although the south transept has undergone considerable restoration. The nave, which consists of four bays with aisles, was rebuilt in both 1832 and 1874, during which the tower was also reconstructed above the arches.
The exterior of the church is restored and constructed from flint and stone rubble, accented with stone dressings. It has a red tile roof with double gables on the transepts, a crenellated parapet, and an octagonal stair turret on the tower. Inside, the chancel features a two-bay quadripartite ribbed vault and an original lancet window. The north transept has old arches supported by octagonal piers, while the original tower arches rest on massive columns with scalloped capitals and Purbeck recessed shafts. The later architectural elements exhibit a Transitional style, but most windows are designed in the Perpendicular style with some original fragments remaining. The church also houses several 18th-century wall monuments and a brass memorial for Thomas Aylward, dated 1413.
