Description
The Church of St Nicholas is a medieval, three-aisled church located on Stoneham Lane in Eastleigh. It features a western tower and a north porch, all designed in a late style. The church was rebuilt around 1600, restored in 1826, and further modified by Bodley in the late 19th century. It has red tile roofing, finials, and raised coping on the gables. The walls are made of ashlar with stepped buttresses that are diagonally placed at the corners, and there is a high plinth with a late moulded step. Most of the windows consist of three and four unit cusped lights set within rebated square frames, while the gable windows and the northeast window are traceried beneath pointed arches. The tower is in the Perpendicular style, featuring battlements, corner pinnacles, and an octagonal stair turret located in the northeast corner.
