Description
Nos 188 and 192 on Chestnut Avenue are an asymmetrical pair of buildings dating from the 17th century and later. They are two storeys high, with the first floor cills positioned at eaves level and three windows across the front. The buildings feature a massive thatched roof, which includes eyebrow-hooded and pierced upper window openings. There are pentices at each end supported by piers, one made of wood and the other of brick, which also merges into the porch roof. A small portion of the timber-frame is exposed, but the majority of the walls are constructed in red brickwork with Flemish bond and some blue headers. The windows include a few small old casements with diagonal leaded lights, although most are modern casements.
