Description
The kitchen garden walls and loggia located west of Numbers 1 and 2 Park Farm Cottages date from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with the loggia possibly added in 1818 by Thomas Hopper. The walls are constructed of red brick in English bond, featuring brick coping and pilasters on the outside, and they enclose a large rectangular kitchen garden.
On the south side, there is a loggia made of ashlar, consisting of two bays, a central doorway leading into the garden, and originally open-fronted flanking bays. The right bays have been infilled with brick, while the left is weatherboarded. The rear walls of the two bays are semi-circular and made of brick, with the tops rebuilt in brick. The pitched roof is covered with corrugated steel sheets, and the center of the parapet is raised, topped with a weather-cock. A short section of the north wall of the garden has collapsed.
Stoneham Park was remodeled in 1775 by Lancelot Brown for John Fleming, and in 1818, the house was rebuilt for John Willis Fleming according to designs by Thomas Hopper.
