Description

The oasthouses immediately west of Will Hall Farmhouse date from the early to mid-19th century and incorporate some earlier materials. They are built of red brick with a weatherboarded timber-frame superstructure, and the northwest end and kiln walls inside are partly constructed of coursed stone. The roof is covered with Welsh slate, featuring gables at both the front and back, as well as four steeply-pitched hipped kiln roofs, although the louvred wooden ventilators are missing.

The oasthouses have a rectangular plan with four kilns and kiln passages along the front and back, supported by spread floors above. The southwest front has four bays and features four doorways on the brick ground floor, with a weatherboarded first floor that includes alternating loading doors and windows. The rear northeast side is gabled, and there is a central row of four steeply-pitched hipped kiln roofs.

Inside, the kiln passage has small cambered arch stoke-openings leading to the kilns. The spread floors above have larger hatch doors that provide access to the kilns, which are equipped with iron grilles and plastered flues.
