Description

Lyewood Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, with alterations and additions in the 17th and early 19th centuries. The walls are of flint with brick quoins and bands, featuring cambered arches and a plinth, all painted. Stone sills are present, and the roof is thatched, hipped at the east end, with eyebrows to the half-dormers. Originally a late medieval timber-framed hall, the house has later fireplaces and inserted first floors, reclad in the early 19th century. The south front has one-and-a-half storeys and three windows, with coupled sash windows. A plain door is set within an open porch with a gabled thatched roof. The interior reveals an exposed timber frame indicating the phases of construction.
