Description
Fordes is a house that dates from the 17th century, with elements from the 18th and 20th centuries. The exterior features rendered walls with a high plinth; the rear wall is brick in the upper part and flint with brick dressings in the lower part. Other walls are constructed of brick in Flemish bond. The roof is half-hipped and tiled, with a gable at the rear wing and a shafted stack. This timber-framed house has a lobby entrance, with extensions and re-cladding from the 18th century, and restoration along with rear extensions from the 19th century. The 20th century has introduced metal casements. The plain doorway is set within an open porch that has a hipped tile roof supported by posts. Inside, exposed framing and a massive chimney breast highlight the building's earlier history.
