Description
Wey House is a house dating from around 1500 to 1550, with 17th-century, early 19th-century, and 20th-century alterations. The exterior is primarily stonework, topped with a tile roof. The building features a timber frame from around 1550, with a 17th-century exterior, early 19th-century re-cladding, and 20th-century extensions on the north side designed in a Vernacular style.
The front (east) elevation has two storeys and four windows, with a half-hipped roof that has a deep half-hip on the slightly projecting north side. The walls are made of ironstone with brick quoins, cambered arches, and a plinth. The windows are casements, and there is a 20th-century gabled porch.
The south elevation also has two storeys, with two windows above and three below. This side shows the south end of the mid-16th-century extension, which has a tile-hung half-hip and a 17th-century wing that features a gable at the west end, separated from a stepped stack. The upper walls are tile-hung, while the lower walls are stone with brick dressings, and it has casement windows.
The rear (west) elevation presents a complex arrangement of roof forms, including a central catslide above a low wall that reveals exposed framing. Inside, the house retains parts of its oldest and later framing.
