Description
Wakefords is a shop premises dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick and tile and originally served as a pair of cottages, later becoming the Holly Bush Inn, which has associations with the writer William Cobbett. Currently, it operates as a butcher's shop and features a single-storeyed west wing added in the late 19th century.
The building is a square block with a symmetrical front facing north, consisting of two storeys and three windows, with the center featuring a blank panel. It has a hipped roof with brick dentil eaves. The walls are painted brick in header bond, and the wider ground-floor openings have flat-oval arches and a plinth. The windows are sashes in exposed frames, and the east side includes a plain shop window within the old opening. There are coupled doorways on the front, one with a boarded door and the other half-glazed. The east side mirrors this design but lacks the doorways. The rear of the building displays two hips and features stone walls with brick dressings.
