Description
Fern Cottages, consisting of Nos. 1 and 2, are an irregular pair of cottages built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of brick and tile. The front, facing northeast, features two storeys, with a projecting wing on the west side, displaying three windows on the upper floor and two on the lower floor. The walls are primarily in Flemish bond, with some sections in 20th-century stretcher bond, and the ground floor openings are cambered. The windows are cast-iron casements. No. 2 has an open gabled porch on the east wall of the wing, which includes decorative bargeboard and a boarded door. The east elevation of No. 1 features a lower south wing with one storey and an attic, also built in Flemish bond, with a first-floor band, cambered openings, cast-iron casements, and two plain doorways. The cottages are included for their group value.
