Description

Lasham House is a large house that was formerly the Rectory, built in the early 18th century with alterations made in the mid-19th century and a service wing. It features brick walls and a slate roof. The main block has a symmetrical front facing northwest, with two storeys and an attic, and it has a window arrangement of two, one, and two. The original double pile roof was replaced by a single mansard roof covered in slate, which includes two small flat-roofed dormers with sash windows. The eaves cornice is fully moulded and raised in the center to form a pediment that contains a painted lunette. The brickwork is in Flemish bond with rubbed flat arches, a first-floor band, a plinth, and marks showing where stucco pilasters were removed that previously supported the pediment. The entrance features Victorian sashes and two narrow lights flanking the door. The Victorian doorcase has a cornice supported by large brackets and plain pilasters, enclosing an 18th-century arched opening with a radiating fanlight and a six-flush panelled door.

The lower service wing extends on the north side and has two storeys with four windows. It has a low-pitched hipped slate roof with coupled eaves brackets, Flemish bond brick walls with cambered openings, sashes set in reveals, and a half-glazed door. The rear elevation is almost identical to the front but lacks the pediment and has a lower central staircase window above the Victorian classical doorcase; this wing is less regular with three windows. Inside, much of the original work remains, including an entrance hall with an archway and a fine staircase with dado panelling. Most doorways have architraves and panelled doors, and there are several chimney pieces throughout the house.
