Description

Ash Cottage is a late 18th-century house situated on the main road in Bentley. It is a two-storey, symmetrical building with three windows facing south. The house has a hipped roof and is constructed of English bond brick with rubbed flat arches and a plinth. It features sash windows. A Doric doorcase with Greek mouldings and a pediment frames a six-panelled door (with two glazed panels at the top). Rear extensions were added in the 18th and mid-19th centuries. An inner wall between these extensions and the original front section reveals a timber frame, representing the rear wall of an earlier house that was replaced when the current structure was built. Inside the main section of the house, original features remain, including the staircase, doorcases, doors, and a fireplace.
