Description

Milestone 41 is a milestone dating from around 1824. It is a square white stone pillar set diagonally, with its front cut into a sloping triangle that leads to an upper rounded front, finished at the top as a half dome. The pillar features incised lettering and numbers: on the half dome, it reads 'Parish of Nately Scures'; on the rounded front, it says 'LONDON'; on the triangle, it shows '41'; on the north-east facet, it indicates 'Basing Stoke 4'; on the north-west facet, it states 'Hartford Bridge 54'; on the south-east facet, it reads 'Through ODIHAM TO LONDON 43'; and on the south-west facet, it notes '41 miles from Hyde Park Corner'.
