Description
Southington Mill is an early 18th century corn mill that was enlarged and converted in the early 20th century. It features a north-south orientation with an attached house at the north end, which has one storey and an attic. The corn store to the west has been incorporated and extended, creating an L-shaped residential block. The original east elevation has a tiled roof with three hipped dormers in the house section, which have cills at eaves level. The mill has boarded walling above two water channels, while the house is constructed of painted brickwork and features two cambered openings with keystones flanking a central doorway. The windows are casements, and there is a six-flush panelled door beneath a small canopy. The later additions maintain the traditional style and include a large stepped stack, some flint panelling in the brickwork (using Flemish and Flemish Garden wall bond), and oak-framed leaded casements.
