Description
The war memorial in Baughurst commemorates those who fell in the First and Second World Wars. Erected in 1920, it features a stone cross atop a tapering shaft, which rises from an octagonal plinth set on a square base. The names of the fallen from Heath End and Baughurst who died in the First World War are inscribed on five sides of the octagonal plinth, while the square section bears a dedicatory inscription on three sides. The entire structure is positioned on a three-tiered square base, with a tablet honoring those who served in the Second World War set into the front face of the top step.
The memorial was established on land donated by local landowner Mr. James Cox and was funded through public subscription. Many of the names listed are of families still residing in the parish. This memorial holds significant historical and cultural value, serving as an attractive and simple tribute to the community's war dead and remains a central feature of local life.
