Description

This is a large house dating to 1902, designed by Ernest Newton in an Arts and Crafts style, exhibiting a balanced but asymmetrical arrangement. The north front, which serves as the main entrance, features a projecting, double-gabled east wing and a more substantial single-gabled west wing. The roof is tiled, and the walls are roughcast with arched ground floor window openings. The windows are largely leaded casements, mainly with three lights. A central porch has a curved copper roof and a wooden trellis framework. The south front, overlooking the garden, has a symmetrical arrangement of six half-dormers, along with a slightly projecting gabled east wing. A French door is located in the first bay, and a half-glazed door is situated in the fourth bay, both sheltered by gabled trellised porches. The tall brick chimneys, finished with tile cappings and brick dentils, are a prominent feature. A lower, two-story service block with a hipped roof is located at the western end. The property has been divided into two separate dwellings, Newbies and West Newbies, and is now separated by an unobtrusive wooden fence along the south side and a hedge along the north side.
