Description

White Close is a building of probable 17th-century or earlier origin, with alterations dating to the 18th century and subsequent periods. It is situated on German Street, Winchelsea. The building is arranged as an 'E' shape, comprising three projections, with the central projection being smaller than the others. The projections have weather-boarded gables, and the south gable features a tripartite attic window. Two dormers are located between the gables. Modern casement or pivoted windows are present throughout. On the north wing, a small modern bay has been added to both the ground and first floors. A large, modern four-sided projection extends from the south-east wing, featuring a large seven-light window on the first floor. The central projection has an 18th-century doorway, characterized by pilasters, a pediment, a segmental fanlight above the door, and a door of six fielded panels.
