Description

Nos. 1 and 2 Wellington Square are a pair of early to mid-19th century buildings, constructed in stucco with a rusticated ground floor. They feature a parapet and extend over four storeys and a basement. The centre of each building has a slight projection, with the second and third floors featuring two-sash windows without glazing bars, set within moulded architraves with cornices and dentil detailing to the sills of the second floor. The first floor contains large three-light sash windows with glazing bars, each with a balcony featuring turned wood balustrades, slender columns, and decorative hoods. The ground floor of No. 1 has a three-light sash window without glazing bars, while No. 2 has a canted bay window of sashes without glazing bars. Each building has a moulded and panelled front door with a rectangular fanlight. The basement area is enclosed by railings with arrow-head shafts and turned newels topped with pineapple finials. The listed buildings in Wellington Square are considered to form a group valued for their visual impact together.
