Description
The Bothy at Culham Court is a bothy dating from the late 18th century, possibly with earlier origins, and was extended in the 20th century. It has a roughcast timber frame and a clay plain tile roof with gabled ends. There is a rendered brick axial stack with two old clay pots. The building has a two-room plan with a central axial stack featuring back-to-back fireplaces; the right-hand (west) room is smaller. A porch is located at the center of the front, and there is a rear wing that was extended in the 20th century.
The exterior is two storeys high and features a symmetrical three-bay north front facing the River Thames. This front includes a central gabled projection with a pointed arch doorway and a plank door, along with a blind window above. The flanking ground floor windows are 18th-century ogee-headed two-light casements, with 18th-century quatrefoil windows above on the first floor, all fitted with leaded panes. Similar windows are present in the left (east) gable end. The small two-storey rear wing is located at the center and was extended in the 20th century.
Inside, the bothy has a simple, unaltered interior showcasing exposed framing and joinery.
