Description
This building, known as the Secondary House at Plas Canol, also referred to as 'The Bothy', is a low one and a half-storeyed former dwelling that is aligned along a slope. It features rubble stone construction topped with a random slate roof. A tall chimney stack with a moulded cap and drip-stones is located on the right-hand gable.
The near-centre doorway has a recessed boarded door, with flanking fixed-pane six-light windows that have been renewed in earlier openings. All windows have crude projecting stone lintels. To the right, there is a small upper window set within the thickness of the stack, and a larger blocked opening is close to the left-hand corner. There is a single opening, possibly a doorway, towards the centre of the rear wall. The building was extended by a single bay to the left, likely in the 19th century.
Internally, the building was originally storeyed, and the main stop-chamfered lateral ceiling beam with slots for joists remains, although the upper floor has been lost. The collar trusses have mostly been replaced. The structure appears to be an undivided single unit, featuring a large fireplace with a timber bressumer on the right side. The upper room was also originally heated, and a smaller fireplace is visible above. A chimney stair is located to the right of the fireplace, though it has been disturbed. The floor at the fireplace end is supported on rough projecting stone corbels.
