Description

Rushy Mead is a late 16th-century cottage that has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is timber-framed with painted brick infilling, and has an old tile gabled roof. The building has an irregular plan, originally comprising two framed bays, with a 20th-century crosswing to the southwest, a single-storey extension to the northeast, and a 19th-century pent roof extension to the northwest. It is one and a half storeys high. The windows are irregular 19th-century casements with one, two, and four lights. There is an entrance door on the northwest, adjoining the pent roof extension, and a 16th-century chimney on the southwest gable, with a 19th-century chimney adjoining. The interior retains a complete timber frame and queen post roof trusses with windbraces. The ground floor joists are chamfered with run-out stops.
