Description
Carter's Hill House is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the late 18th century. It is built of orange-colored brick and features a hipped old tile roof. The building has two storeys, an attic, and a basement. Notable architectural details include a painted brick plinth, painted toothed eaves, and a bracketed wood cornice.
The entrance front has two 19th-century gabled dormers and three bays, with segmental-headed sash windows that have glazing bars and stone cills supported on small brackets, along with 20th-century shutters. The central door is glazed and topped with a rectangular fanlight that features diagonal and elliptical wrought iron and cast lead glazing. This door is flanked by inner pilasters with small urn heads and is surrounded by a moulded architrave on a plain outer surround. Carved console brackets with carved drops support a flat cornice hood above the door. There is also a 19th-century lean-to extension on the southwest front, which includes small sash windows.
