Description
The Berkshire Masonic Centre is a large house that has been converted into a Masonic centre. Originally built in the late 18th century, it has been altered and extended in the 20th century. The building features painted stucco and a hipped slate roof, and it is designed in an L-shape with extensions to the west and north. It stands two storeys tall and includes a first-floor string course, a plain frieze, and a cornice, topped by a tall parapet with balustraded panels on either side of a central pediment.
On the southwest front, there are seven upper bays, with the three central bays slightly projecting and adorned with a pediment. These are flanked by two upper windows on either side, above a large flat segmental bow that contains three windows. The ground floor of the central section features flanking windows and a central door with an arched radiating fanlight, all beneath a pseudo-Doric enclosed porch supported by two columns, complete with an entablature and blocking course. All windows throughout the building are sashes with glazing bars. To the left, there is a similar extension, but it has a lower parapet and two bays of sash windows with glazing bars. There are also large 20th-century extensions to the north, which are not listed.
