Description
Oak Lodge is an estate cottage built in the late 19th century and altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of brick featuring a diaper pattern in dark headers, with stone dressings and a fish scale gabled roof. The building has an irregular plan, with one large gable and one smaller gable facing west, both adorned with decorative carved bargeboards that have dropped finials. A large chimney is situated between the gables, featuring fluted shafts, a stone base, and an elaborate offset head. The cottage is one storey high and has two 3-light casement windows set in stone surrounds, although the glazing has been altered. An entrance porch is located on the south side of the larger gable. Oak Lodge was built as part of the Walter model estate village, which included Bear Wood, the large house constructed for John Walter.
