Description

This is a late 19th-century estate cottage, extended in the 20th century. It was built as part of the Walter Model Estate village, associated with Bear Wood, the large house for John Walter, located in the parish of Arborfield and Newland. The cottage is constructed of brick with diaper patterning in dark brick headers, stone dressings, and a fish scale gabled roof. It has an irregular plan with one large and one smaller gable facing west, featuring decorative carved bargeboards with dropped finials. A large chimney is located between the gables, featuring fluted shafts, a stone base, and an elaborate offset head. The west-facing elevation has two three-light casement windows with stone surrounds and decorative glazing. A porch is situated on the north side of the larger gable, with a brick column on a stone base, tumbled brick and stone parapet, and a flat roof. A 20th-century extension is located at the rear.
