Description

No.1 Radstock Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and an extension added in the mid-20th century. The timber frame is encased in painted roughcast, and it has a tile gabled roof. Originally comprising four framed bays, it now has three, with a stair turret at the rear and an extension on the left. The cottage is two storeys high and has one end gable chimney, and a ridge chimney with a 19th-century top over an original 17th-century stack. It features 20th-century metal casement windows. The front of the cottage has a rendered plinth and comprises two bays, with gablets above the first-floor windows breaking the eaves. A 20th-century porch with a 20th-century door is set to the right. The interior retains a complete timber frame, visible throughout. There are chamfered beams and joists with lambs tongue stops, and a queen post roof. An inglenook chimney with a bread oven is also present. The adjoining No.2 Radstock Farm Cottage was formerly part of No.1 Radstock Cottage and may still contain one framed bay concealed beneath 20th-century linings and plaster.
