Description
Hyde End Farmhouse is a late 18th century farmhouse located on Hyde End Road in Shinfield. It is built of brick and features a hipped slate roof with a rectangular plan. The building has two storeys and a basement, with two chimneys positioned behind the ridge. Notable architectural details include a wood cornice and a boxed gutter. The façade consists of five bays of sash windows with glazing bars, along with rubbed brick flat blocked windows in the basement. The entrance features a six-panelled door with arched panelled newels and an arched, radiating, wreathed fanlight adorned with cast lead enrichments. This is set within a Doric porch that has fluted wall pilasters, fluted columns, and an entablature, accessed by four stone steps. Inside, the farmhouse contains a staircase with stick balusters and a wreathed handrail, as well as two 18th century marble and stone fireplaces, one located in each of the principal rooms.
