Description
Oaklands is a late 18th or early 19th century farmhouse, now a house located in East Farleigh. The building is constructed of chequered red and grey brick with a slate roof. It is a double-depth design with three storeys and a cellar, set upon a brick plinth. Painted stone plat bands are present between floors and at the eaves. The roof is hipped, and brick stacks project from the gable ends, both front and rear. The front facade is regular, featuring recessed 12-pane sashes on the upper floors and two 15-pane sashes on the ground floor. These windows have splayed, rubbed brick voussoirs and formerly had shutters. A central half-glazed and panelled door is recessed and accessed by six steps, leading to a 20th-century porch which replaces the original reeded architrave and projecting cornice. Single-storey additions to the rear, to the left, were formerly an outhouse and dairy. The interior was only partly inspected, but features reeded architrave around the stairwell arch.
