Description

East Farleigh House is a house from the mid-18th century. The ground floor is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, while the first floor features channelled render. The building has a double depth and stands two storeys high on a rendered plinth. It has a plat band and a balustraded parapet above a moulded cornice. The roof is hipped and covered with plain tiles, with a stack located towards the rear on the left side.

The front of the house has a regular three-window arrangement, consisting of two tripartite sashes—one with five lights and the other with six lights—and a central round-headed window that has a small squared wooden keystone and imposts. The ground floor features four 12-pane sashes with splayed rubbed brick voussoirs. The left return elevation has two 12-pane sashes and a blank central space.

Access to the house is through a central recessed panelled door, which is reached by three steps. This door is topped by a semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars and a raised wooden keystone. It is flanked by Doric pilasters and a frieze, topped with a broken-based triangular pediment. At the rear, there is a taller and narrower range that does not extend to the right end.

The interior has only been partly inspected but includes an 18th-century staircase with slender turned balusters and a wreathed handrail. It is said to have a keystone dated 1766.
