Description

The Mitford is an 18th-century house that was extended in the 19th century, located on the east side of Basingstoke Road in Three Mile Cross. The building is rendered with an old tile gabled roof and has two storeys. There are two chimney stacks, one on the ridge to the left of the centre and one flanking on the right. The front of the house features two bays with sash windows on the left, which have altered glazing, and a six-panelled door in the right-hand bay. The windows are fitted with Venetian shutters. To the right, there is a similar bay set back, which has a chimney on the gable end, along with a one-storey projection to the left; both of these are 19th-century extensions. The house was the residence of Miss Mitford from 1820 to 1851.
