Description

White Cottage is a late 16th-century cottage that has been altered in the 19th century and extended in the 20th century. It is timber-framed with painted brick and rendered brick infilling, and has an old tile gabled roof. The building has an irregular plan with an original 2-framed bay layout and a 20th-century crosswing to the east and a pent roof extension to the rear. A small, gabled tiled extension has been added to the west. The cottage is two storeys high, featuring a large chimney on the central ridge, which has been partly rebuilt. Windows are mostly irregular 19th- and 20th-century leaded casements, with 2 and 3 lights. A single leaded light window on the first floor in the centre is likely older. The interior retains a complete timber frame, including a queen post roof and windbraces. The south-east bay features chamfered ground floor joists with carved stops. A large inglenook chimney contains a semi-circular bread oven.
