Description
A row of cottages, now used as a single cottage and offices, dating from the early 17th century, with alterations in the 19th and mid-20th centuries. The buildings are timber-framed, largely encased in brick, with No. 10 having a front of painted render. The roof is tiled and hipped on the left side. No. 6 has two framed bays, No. 8 has two framed bays and a stair turret at the rear, and No. 10 has four framed bays with an early 20th-century extension to the rear, and also includes a cellar and attic. A 17th-century chimney is located at the rear of No. 8. Originally symmetrical, the front elevation now features two flanking angular bays extending the full height, with a similar centrally positioned bay on the first floor, all set under wide, flat eaves with a hipped projection. The windows are 20th-century casements with glazing bars. At ground floor, between the outer bays are a six-panel door and two 20th-century glazed doors, with a 19th-century angular bay on the right-hand side of the centre. Late 20th-century iron hoop railings are set upon a low brick wall with a semi-circular brick coping, and include an iron gate with a matching design on the left-hand side, which are replicas of 19th-century railings that were previously removed. The interior of No. 6 contains a good early 17th-century newel staircase with plain square newels, turned balusters, and a moulded handrail.
