Description
No. 4 Rose Street is a small house that dates from the late 16th century, with an 18th-century front that was altered in the early 19th and 20th centuries. The building is timber framed and partly encased in brick, topped with an old tile roof that is hipped on the left side. It has an L-plan layout consisting of two framed bays by two framed bays. There are two chimneys located at the rear. The house features brick dentilled eaves and a two-bay front. The windows are sash style with glazing bars and have gauged brick heads. The central entrance is a 20th-century glazed door with small panes, set beneath a flat hood with a dentilled frieze supported by carved brackets. In front of the house, there are three bays of 19th or early 20th-century iron hoop railings on a dwarf brick wall, which has semi-circular brick coping. An iron gate with a matching design is located on the right side, and the railings return against No. 4.
