Description
This is a group of three gravestones located approximately 2 metres east of the south transept of the Church of St. John the Baptist in Shottesbrooke. They date from the mid to late 18th century.
The first gravestone, which is closest to the church, features a moulded, gabled top with carved foliage underneath and serves as a memorial to George Trayhorn, Steward to the lord of the Manor, who died in 1746. The second gravestone has a semi-circular top with scrolled ends that enclose rosettes, and it displays a carving of a seraphim surrounded by garlands and leaf ornamentation; this memorial is for John Hand Marsh, who died in 1773. The third gravestone has a plain shaped top and features a carved skull with crossbones underneath; it commemorates John Lee, who died in 1742.
