Description

This late 16th-century cottage, located on Smewins Road in Shottesbrooke, was originally known as No. 29 The Marsh. It has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is timber-frame with painted brick infill and old tile roofing, featuring a gabled roof and a rectangular plan comprised of two framed bays, with a lean-to extension at the rear. It is two storeys high. A chimney with clay pots and weathered offsets is visible on the north gable. The windows include 19th-century and 20th-century casements, some with horizontal glazing bars on the first floor and smaller panes on the ground floor. A 20th-century plank entrance door is located between two windows on the west-facing front, alongside a window to the left. The interior retains some exposed timber frame.
