Description

Stuart Cottage is probably a late 15th-century hall house, altered in the 19th century and extended in the mid-20th century. It is now a cottage and originally part of a larger structure, Stuart Cottage, Shottery. The building is timber-framed with painted brick infill, partially underbuilt in painted brick, and has an old tile gabled roof. It adjoins Shottery to the right, which is listed separately. The plan is a T-shape, consisting of one bay and a two-bay crosswing. It is two storeys high. The west front, facing the road, is irregular. There are 20th-century leaded casement windows. A gable on the right has a two-light window on the first floor and a three-light window on the ground floor. The section on the left has a two-light window on both the first and ground floors, with a plain 20th-century entrance door to the right. Inside, the crosswing features large plain floor joists and a chamfered principal beam.
