Description

Shottery is a late 15th-century hall house, now a cottage. It has been altered in the 19th century and extended in the late 20th century. The building is timber-framed with painted brick infill, with some areas underbuilt in painted brick, and has an old tile gabled roof. It adjoins Stuart Cottage, which is listed separately. The rectangular plan consists of three framed bays, with a 20th-century extension to the rear. The west front, facing the road, is irregular. It features 20th-century leaded casement windows. A small triangular roof dormer is located near the centre, containing a small window, and below this is a 2-light oriel window with single-light returns on shaped brackets. Further windows include a small 2-light window to the left, a disused plank door to the left, and a 4-light and a 3-light window to the right. A 20th-century gabled porch with an entrance door now sits on the gable end. Inside, the timber frame is largely exposed, featuring large section joists, large posts and curved braces. The principal timbers are chamfered.
