Description
Burford House is a late 17th-century building originally constructed by the Duke of St Alban's for Nell Gwynn. It underwent significant alterations and was recased by architect Blore around 1842. The house has four storeys with a rendered exterior. The central section features five coupled windows, flanked by wings that each contain narrow rectangular bay windows over three storeys. A five-storey clock tower is located at the north corner, which is square at the base and transitions to an octagonal top stage, complete with crenellations. The building includes weathered sill courses and a cornice, as well as broad crenels along the parapet. The windows are small pane sashes with coupled mullions and common surrounds on the first and second floors, featuring shield panelled aprons. There are grouped chimneys, and another crenellated broached tower is situated at the southwest corner. The interior has been modernised.
