Description
Chariott's Charity is a building dated 1863, formerly associated with a row of almshouses located behind the school building in the yard at the back. It features an eccentric bargeboard Gothic style typical of a small house. The structure is two storeys high, constructed of red brick with Bath stone dressings and quoins. There is an impost string across the ground floor. The front has three bays with a central tower porch that has a canted front and a false machicollation beneath a slate spire. The flanking bays have bargeboard gables, each displaying the date in quatrefoil panels. The windows are coupled narrow types with shaped heads and pointed brick relieving arches. A small pointed window is located on the first floor of the tower, while the base of the porch features a broached out entrance with a moulded jointed arch and a patterned brick surround with a relieving arch. The door is panelled and glazed, topped by a traceried fanlight. At the rear, there is a picturesque L-shaped red brick school building linked by a screen wall. This building has slightly Gothicized large windows and a slate roof with a hipped dormer type bellcot.
