Description

The Bridge House Public House and adjoining barn, originally known as The Bridge Public House and adjoining barn, is a cottage that has been converted into a public house, with the barn now used for storage. The public house dates from the late 16th century and has been altered and extended in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is partially encased in painted brick and roughcast, topped with an old tile gabled roof. The building has a rectangular plan consisting of two framed bays, with extensions on the south and east sides. It stands two storeys tall and has a tall chimney with a clay pot on the right side.

The road front, facing north, includes early 20th-century wooden casement windows, with two 2-light windows on each floor, featuring original moulded cills and a centre spur. There is an additional 2-light window on the ground floor at the right end. The entrance porch is centrally located, enclosed, and has a lean-to tile roof with a 20th-century glazed entrance door. To the left, there is a small flat roof extension adjoining the barn.

The interior of the public house reveals nine timber frames exposed on the ground floor, with most of the framing also visible on the first floor, showcasing straight braces and posts. The adjoining barn, also from the late 16th century, has a timber frame and is weatherboarded, with a gabled roof made of corrugated iron. It has a rectangular plan of two framed bays and an entrance on the north side. The interior of the barn features an exposed frame, queen post roof trusses, straight posts, and curved windbraces.
