Description
The cowhouse at White Place Farm, located approximately 35 meters southwest of White Place Farmhouse, is a large structure built in the late 19th century. It features a timber frame with brick perimeter walls and boarded horizontal sliding shutters positioned above low eaves. The roof is made of clay interlocking tiles and is hipped in three sections, topped with a central octagonal clerestory and a pyramidal metal roof, which has a weathervane on top. The building has a square plan with a central raised area over the cattle space, enclosed by an iron palisade between frame posts, and is aisled on three sides. There are a pair of ledged and braced, planked entrance doors on both the north and south sides. This cowhouse is noted for being unique in Berkshire.
