Description

No 28 on Thames Street is a building dated 1903, designed in a Jacobeathan style. It has three storeys and is constructed of painted brick. The second floor features an oversailing, twin-gabled, timber-framed design, with two casement windows. On the first floor, there is a broad canted bay with casement lights. The ground floor houses a marble-faced butcher's shop. A deep fascia with cresting and the Royal Arms indicates the building's royal appointment. A plaque on the side of the building notes that this site was the birthplace of the founder of the Massachusetts Militia. This property is included for its group interest, along with Nos 28 to 30 and The Theater Royal.
