Description

The Theatre Royal is a 1903 building designed by Sir William Shipley. It is a three-storey structure with an ashlar front and slight Jacobean detailing. A deep frieze sits above a cornice, topped by a parapet with swept coping and tapered square finials. The front features stone mullioned transomed windows, with five lights in the centre and two lights on either side. A broad entrance is sheltered by a glazed canopy supported on east iron columns, extending over the pavement. The interior was refurbished following a fire in 1910. The Theatre Royal, together with numbers 28 and 30 Thames Street, forms a group of buildings with group value.
