Description

The Chapel of the former Beaumont College is a Grade II listed building located on Burfield Road in Old Windsor. It was built in 1870 by architect Joseph Hansom, with interior decorations completed by JF Bentley between 1873 and 1876. The chapel features stock brick construction with Bath stone detailing and a tiled, coped gabled roof that rises above the other buildings of Beaumont College.

On the exterior, the east gable is decorated with brick and includes a large rose window. The north front consists of six bays, featuring a round-headed blind arcade at the top level, supported by Bath stone impost blocks and a continuous sill, along with projecting brick eaves.

Inside, a floor and ceiling were inserted around 1970, and the walls have been lined, but the capitals of the columns remain visible. The interior is believed to be largely intact beneath the linings, showcasing a barrel vaulted roof and an arcade of round arches leading to a single north aisle. The walls were originally plastered with painted designs in a style reminiscent of Raphael, and there is a reredos designed in the Venetian Renaissance style.
