Description
The chapel at Llandovery College is a Gothic-style building, constructed with painted roughcast and featuring slate roofs behind parapets and coped shouldered gables. It has lancet windows with patterned leaded glazing. Notable architectural elements include a string course below the parapets, moulded parapet coping, an east end cross finial, and two-step gabled buttresses positioned between the bays and at the corners.
The chapel consists of a four-bay nave, small transepts, and a single bay chancel. The west end features three stepped lancets above a gabled porch with a pointed arched entry. The north side has two triple stepped lancets and three buttresses. The small north transept includes diagonal two-step buttresses and five tiny lancets set high on the west and east sides. The north chancel has three closely set lancets and a pointed door with a cambered head.
On the south side of the nave, there is a blank first bay followed by three similar three-light windows. The south transept projects less than the north transept and has a small bellcote on the east shoulder with a circular chimney attached. It also features stepped gabled diagonal buttresses and a stepped three-light window at the south end. The south chancel mirrors the north with lancets, diagonal angle buttresses, and a stepped five-light window at the east.
The interior has not been inspected but includes a large abstract east window created in 1991 by Amber Hescott and David Pearl of Swansea.
