Description

This is a pair of early to mid-19th century brick houses located on Castle Hill. They have a slate roof and central chimneys. The houses are symmetrical, featuring a central, pedimented front which is recessed between two smaller, pedimented towers with parapet walls extending along the sides. A central name tablet is recessed within the triangular pediment. The towers have recessed panels and a continuous string course runs below them. The first floor has recessed double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, set within rubbed flat brick arches and wooden sills. The ground floor includes a four-centred brick arch leading to an entrance porch on each side, with six-panelled doors and glazed fanlights above. A part-glazed pent canopy, supported by decorative timber, sits over the centrally recessed area, and there is a shallow segmental bay window on the left-hand side. Number 16 has a large, modern extension at the rear which is of no particular interest.
